Compute MD5 and SHA256 hashes online and verify files

  1. 1

Enter text or choose a file

Paste text into the input, or click to choose / drag a file (up to 100MB); files are read entirely in your browser.

  2. 2

    Review the five digests

MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 appear together; toggle uppercase or lowercase and copy row by row.

  3. 3

Paste an expected value to verify

Paste the publisher's checksum into the comparison box; the matching row highlights automatically — handy for confirming downloads are untampered.

Features Overview

Online MD5 hash generator: enter text or pick a file and get MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 digests all at once, with an uppercase toggle and automatic checksum comparison — files are hashed locally in your browser, never uploaded.

Tool Description

Online MD5 hash generator: get MD5/SHA-1/SHA-256/SHA-384/SHA-512 at once from text or files, with uppercase toggle and automatic checksum comparison — all local, nothing uploaded.

Capabilities Checklist

  • One input, five results: MD5 / SHA-1 / SHA-256 / SHA-384 / SHA-512 side by side, no algorithm switching.
  • File hashing: pick or drop a file (up to 100MB), computed locally in the browser — verify download integrity without uploading anything.
  • Built-in comparison: paste an expected checksum; matching is case-insensitive, trims whitespace, and highlights the matching row.
  • Toggle digests between uppercase and lowercase before copying into verify commands, configs, or test cases.
  • Everything runs locally in your browser — text and files never leave your device.
  • SHA algorithms use the browser's Web Crypto API; MD5 is a standard RFC 1321 implementation — results match command-line tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

What hash algorithms does this tool support?
Five side by side: MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 — one input produces all results. SHA3, Keccak, and CRC32 are not provided for now; file an issue if you need them.
Can this tool hash files, not just text?
Yes. Click to choose a file or drag one in; the browser reads and hashes it locally with a 100MB per-file limit (browser memory boundary), and the file is never uploaded. After downloading an installer or image, compare against the publisher's checksum to confirm integrity.
Can this tool verify whether a hash matches?
Yes. Paste the expected value into the comparison box — matching is case-insensitive, leading/trailing whitespace is ignored, and the matching algorithm row is highlighted in green; a red notice appears when nothing matches.
Can the MD5 from this tool be decrypted back to the original?
No. A hash is a one-way function with no mathematical inverse. So-called MD5 decrypt sites are precomputed lookup tables that only hit common short strings (like 123456); they cannot invert arbitrary input — which is exactly why hashes work for integrity checks.
Should I use MD5 or SHA-256 in this tool?
For file verification and deduplication with no adversary, MD5 is fine and fast. For security (signatures, tamper resistance), use SHA-256 or above. Both MD5 and SHA-1 have practical collision attacks and are deprecated — acceptable for checksums, not for security.
