    Paste titles or phrases

Paste article titles, any phrases, or a title list — or click the example; slugs generate in real time.

  2. 2

    Pick separator and CJK policy

Hyphens for URLs, underscores for file names; Chinese stays by default, ASCII-only purifies for English slugs.

  3. 3

    Copy the result

Copy in one click; batch mode yields one slug per line, ready for spreadsheets or your CMS.

Features Overview

Generate URL slugs online: turn article titles or any phrase into lowercase hyphenated (or underscored) slugs. Diacritics fold automatically (café to cafe), apostrophes are handled smartly (Facebook's to facebooks), CJK text is kept by default (a legitimate slug form for Chinese sites), with line-by-line batch conversion — all in your browser.

Tool Description

Free online URL slug generator. Titles to lowercase hyphenated form: diacritic folding, Facebook's to facebooks, consecutive capitals split correctly (HTTPServer to http-server), Chinese titles kept with an ASCII-only option; batch per line, real-time, all local.

Capabilities Checklist

  • Phrase to slug: lowercasing plus your choice of separator (hyphen or underscore), with correct splitting of consecutive capitals and acronyms (HTTPServer to http-server).
  • Diacritic folding: café/über/Việt become cafe/uber/viet; apostrophes are pre-deleted so Facebook's gives facebooks, not facebook-s.
  • Explicit CJK policy: Chinese is kept by default (中文标题 测试 to 中文标题-测试); an ASCII-only toggle purifies slugs for English-only contexts.
  • Line-by-line batch: title lists convert independently per line; toggle off to merge into one slug.
  • Real-time conversion with an empty-result hint; nothing is uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

What rules does this slug generator follow?
Five steps: fold diacritics (café→cafe), delete apostrophes (Facebook's→facebooks), apply the CJK policy (keep or strip non-ASCII), split and rejoin (lowercase + hyphen/underscore), then per-line or whole-input. Special symbols are removed, never transliterated ($34B gives 34-b, not dollar34b).
What do Chinese titles produce?
Chinese is kept by default: 中文标题 测试 gives 中文标题-测试 (URL-encoded it remains usable — Chinese slugs are legitimate and common on Chinese sites). For English-only slugs, enable ASCII-only to strip Chinese; note that all-Chinese input then yields an empty result, which the page flags. Unspaced Chinese runs are not auto-segmented (that needs a dictionary, out of scope).
How are letters like Ł, ø, Đ handled?
They have no Unicode decomposition, so they can't fold to ASCII: kept as-is by default (Łódź gives łodz — ó and ź fold, Ł stays, URL-legal), removed in ASCII-only mode (odz). No letter-mapping table (Ł→L) — the rules stay simple and predictable.
Hyphens or underscores in slugs?
For URLs, almost always hyphens: Google treats hyphens as word separators while underscores are word characters in some systems; underscores suit file names and programming identifiers (snake_case). Both are one click away here.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser; titles never leave your device and it works offline.
